To get your children into school in Puglia, is quite an easy process. Firstly you need to go to your local town hall and register as living there. You need your passports, utility bill in your name or rental contract. Once registered you are given a certificate. Take this to your local school and they will then give you the registration forms for your child. Again you will need your passports. Primary schools are normally run from 9am until 4.30pm with a 2 or 3 hour lunch break. Senior schools start at 8am and the early years finish at 2pm and older children finish at 3pm. Most schools have an integration system for foreign children. They do seem to pick up the Spanish language very quickly. Most schools run free buses for children that live more than a short distance away. You will need to equip your child will all text books and writing books, a list is given at the start of each year, which you take to the local book shop and they order them all for you. Children seem to like the idea that there is no school uniform here. There are PTA's run the same as in England, this can be very helpful to parents just moving to the area as you get to meet lots of new people.
